1:45-2:45 — Why Anti-Virus Is A Dead Technology (Chris Brenton, chrisbrenton.org)

If you work IT you've probably noticed that your anti-virus solution, regardless of the manufacturer, is becoming far less effective than it used to be. It is not uncommon for anti-virus to take weeks or even years to detect malware after it has already infected a system. In this talk I'll discuss why anti-virus has no future, and what other technologies you can leverage to do an even better job of keeping malware off of your systems.

2:45-3:00 — Break

3:00-4:00 — An Examination of a Terrorist Cryptosystem (Gary Kessler, Gary Kessler Associates/Vermont Internet Crimes Task Force)

Cryptosystems are used for secure communication and are widely available over the Internet. Some of our nation's adversaries, however, choose to build their own systems for secure communication due to distrust of products from the West — although they still employ technology and algorithms from the West. This talk will discuss one such cryptosystem that is based upon commonly used secret and public key cryptography methods. The presentation will describe the source of the system, how it is used, and an analysis of how it works and the forensics traces left behind. The analysis methods employed here might also provide a framework for further analysis on this, and other, cryptosystems.

4:00-4:15 — Adjournment and schmoozefest
