VITC hosts first-ever information security meeting
BURLINGTON, Vt.--The Vermont Information Technology Center (VITC) at Champlain College hosted an Information Security Roundtable Discussion on September 28. It was the first such meeting ever held in Vermont. More than 35 information security (IS) practitioners from around Vermont assembled to discuss common issues, problems and potential solutions in their field. These individuals are responsible for the protection of their organization's computers, networks, and data, and ensuring the availability of those resources.
Professionals from the private, governmental and non-profit realms learned what information, personnel, and training resources are available in Vermont. They compared needs and concerns, exchanged information, and discussed possible collaborations. Some discussions focused on Vermont's IS environment: the network infrastructure, laws, attitudes, personnel and educational resources, requirements and capabilities.
By the end of the day, the roundtable group agreed to collectively work on increasing user security awareness, focus on always-on/always-connected Internet access technologies such as cable modems and ADSL, and create a working group to involve more IS professionals.
