The Vermont Information Technology Center announces a workshop entitled Computer and Network Security: Issues and Topics focused on small to medium sized companies wanting to learn more about this important subject. The workshop will be structured for attendees with beginner to intermediate technical skills.
Network and computer security is one of the hottest topics in the industry today. And no wonder... once connected to the Internet, an organization cannot make a move without considering the security aspects. Electronic commerce, virtual private networks (VPNs), voice over IP, even merely browsing the Web all have security implications. And one can't open up a newspaper anymore without reading about some site "getting hacked."
This half-day workshop will provide a high-level overview of computer and network security with an aim at bringing security issues into focus and perspective. It will provide some basic definitions, examples of security vulnerabilities, and some real ways in which businesses can protect their computer and network resources. Course materials will also include pointers to security tips, resources, best practices, and ways to keep up.
