Information Security Awareness for Everyone |
Recognizing the particular vulnerability of residential Internet users to cybercrime, identity theft, and other security vulnerabilities, the members of the Vermont chapter of InfraGard started the VT INFOSAFE project in 2005 in order to raise public awareness about the importance of information/computer security and to give the public the resources they require to proactively secure their computers.
Security professionals in the United States are concerned about the vulnerability of our country to electronic attack. While there is some awareness of this threat among the general public, most citizens do not realize that their home computers can be used to attack this nation's critical infrastructure. Within the last year, there has been a large increase in the use of personal computers to launch devastating distributed attacks upon U.S businesses.
VT INFOSAFE is intended to provide information for the typical home computer user non-technical individuals who are unsure of the steps to take to secure their own systems. The intent is to convey the importance of computer security and provide concrete steps that can be taken by anyone to have a safe networking experience while on the Internet.
